prevx's rootkit detection is very good, better than others such as rkr, I am currently using … nothing
I'm currently disgusted with virus protections. They all seem to intrusive and run too many services in the background. I recently uninstalled my version of McAfee and I doubt I'll ever go back to Symantec. Is Prevx different than the others?

PrevX is light weight and meant to be run along aside you antivirus program. Symantec can't catch a cold.
I have a friend who's a software engineer. He's been trying to get me to buy Eset. He's been into computer programming since before the personal computer. My biggest issue is that I have issues with the limited activations. I tend to reinstall my OS frequently. I recently upgraded my motherboard – reinstall XP. I then bought an e-sata hot-swap hard drive dock, but I installed my system with IDE and not AHCI, thus I need to reinstall XP again. See? I'm never satisfied. It's all a nightmare with software that constantly needs activations (and limits those activations.) It's gotten to the point that I simply do not reinstall the aps I've paid for. I just stop buying software that limits activation, or is stingy with extending activations. I did look into Prevx and it sounds dynamite, but they also limit activations to 3. That might take me through the one year subscription. Maybe not. I need to find out if Eset limits activations.

Oh, and dude, you totally look like the cold fusion programmer at my previous place of employment! He was cool.
PrevX support is great. I've already had to ask to have my key reactivated after 3 deactivation attempts. It only took contacting support by email and they ready my key for use again. They understand.
As far as re-installing windows. You might want to think about "imaging". This would help tremendously with reactivation software. You could do a clean install with all you "paid for" software and just take an image. I do this all the time with virtual machines and my main workstation. I actually did it when I switched my system over to raid 0. I just imaged my drive with acronis true image and it was like nothing ever changed.
Also, acronis has a "universal restore" that will let you restore any image of your system to totally different hardware. In your case a new motherboard.
hope this helps.
Ahaan… I will follow.
I am using A-Squared and Outpost Firewall Pro
