Apparently, Retrospect is the only software company able to backup to a Tape drive/Library on a Mac Xserve. I’ve googled my brains out looking for something that could handle tape drives. Retrospect seems to be the only one company that offers this feature. But there is a terrible dark side…..
No Documentation
Apparently even when the software came out there was no official due date for the guides or manuals.
On the site the only manual available is a “getting started guide”. Which is worthless all together.
Software That Just Works….right?
Wrong, this software running on either 10.4 or 10.5 is unstable at best. You are constantly restarting the engine to be able to communicate with your hardware.
You have to constantly restart the console because the user interface will become unresponsive to your commands.
Check the Forums…
If you really want to know how people feel about this software package, just read the forums. The complaints should steer you in the right direction.
