I just answered a question on Experts-Exchange.com about these adapters. DVI-D is a pure digital video format. If you buy one of these adapters it will not convert it to a VGA analog signal. You need a converter box like this.
Random Buyer’s Comment:
You can read up on the customer reactions on Neweggs.com’s review page here.
Pros: There are no pros. You cannot convert DVI-D to VGA with this item. You actually need a converter box which run about $200. Best thing to do is get a new monitor or new card.
Cons: If you can’t and have no options, google DVI formats to get more guidance.
Second Random Buyer’s Comment:
In order to convert a DVI-D signal, which is digital only, to a VGA, which is analog, you would first need to use an adapter that converts the digital signal to an analog signal. This device alone will not allow you to connect a vga monitor to a DVI-D video card. If you have a DVI-I video card, it may be possible but with a different product.”
